The method of data collection—whether through surveys, interviews, observations, or experiments—should be feasible and align with the research objectives.

Resource availability is another key aspect. Time, budget, and access to participants can all limit the choice of methodology. For instance, conducting large-scale quantitative surveys may not be possible with limited resources, while qualitative methods such as case studies or interviews may be more manageable. Similarly, the availability of software for data analysis or the researcher's own skills and training can influence the methodological decision.

Ethical considerations also influence the choice of research methodology. Certain methods may involve sensitive topics or vulnerable populations, requiring careful planning to protect participants’ rights and confidentiality. Ethics review boards often scrutinize methodologies to ensure that they minimize harm and maximize benefits. As such, researchers need to choose methods that allow them to collect the necessary data while upholding high ethical standards.

Finally, reviewing literature on similar research topics can provide guidance. By examining how other researchers have approached similar problems, one can identify effective methodologies, potential pitfalls, and innovative techniques. Literature reviews can also reveal gaps in current knowledge, which the research can aim to fill using the most suitable methodological approach.
